Formerly the location of the Church Inn pub, the currently vacant site is within the MMU campus boundary and just a five-minute walk from the University of Manchester, It offers excellent potential for a bespoke and modern student community and hub.
Designed by Carson & Partners, we have high hopes that this will set a new benchmark in this location and enhance the choice available to students, who continue to make Manchester a major destination for both study and the excellent student experience.
The scheme will comprise of a ground floor communal space which may incorporate further study space and communal kitchen/winter garden for relaxing and socialising. We then propose 9 floors providing a mix of accommodation which will enable the scheme to be an affordable option open to a range of students on different budgets. Each cluster en suite floor will also have a communal kitchen and lounge space with the large corner windows providing views to the campus and city. We also propose a bespoke common room to the top floor with secured and managed access to a roof terrace.
We are working alongside Ben Kelly Design, famous in Manchester for his work to the interiors of the Hacienda night club, to bring a unique character and vibrancy to the scheme.
We are also looking at ways to provide greater accessibility as a form of digital way finding which will not only benefit students finding their way around the building but may also link up the University campus. This is in early development but something we are very excited about.
